Reading Enrichment Classes
These small classes are a focused time of learning and practicing early literacy
skills. They are great for children who need a "boost" in their reading and
writing skills, or for children who just love learning to read and want to get ahead.
Many of our customers use these classes as a supplement to their normal preschool
or elementary school classes.
As with all Storybook Safari services, our goal is to make learning fun and exciting!
We use games, puzzles, music... a wide variety of activities to make learning to
read fun and to motivate children to read more.
You now have two more options when choosing a reading enrichment class for your
child! We have TWO days of classes to choose from OR your child may attend
BOTH classes in the week.
ABC Play with Me (Preschool, ages 3-5)
This class is not currently being held.
This preschool enrichment class is a
perfect introduction to early literacy skills. You will be AMAZED at how our
unique activities will help your child grasp concepts such as letter recognition, letter sounds,
rhyming, and more! What a great way to get your child on the
right track before entering Kindergarten!
Reading Games (Elementary, grades K-2)
This class is not currently being held.
Ideal for K-2 students who are reading at a level 15-16
or below, this class is a fantastic way to reinforce skills and provide strategies
that your child will need in order to increase his/her reading level. To hear the terms reading comprehension,
phonics, spelling, or grammar, you and your child may automatically think of workbooks
that drill these concepts. Learning to read can be FUN! Imagine using
music to prepare for a spelling test...or using a hamburger or peanut butter and
jelly sandwich to retell a story! Imagine how much easier learning to read
could be if your child actually ENJOYED it.
Tutoring
Our Approach
At Storybook Safari,
we focus on making learning to read an enjoyable experience. We want your
child to look forward to tutoring each week. We accomplish
this
using a three-pronged approach.
1) Our Environment:
Learning is easier when children are relaxed and in a good mood, so our environment
helps set the stage for success as soon as they come through our doors. We provide
a comfortable, kid-friendly environment, complete with safari murals, stuffed animals,
and giant bean bags. No child wants to sit for tutoring in just another boring classroom
after being at school all day.
2) Our Materials:
Another way that we make tutoring enjoyable is through the teaching materials that
we select. Whenever possible, we use games to teach literacy skills, rather than
boring worksheets. We also have far more flexibility to serve your child than many
of our competitors. We can hand-pick books for your child based on their reading
level and their interests, rather than having a required list of reading materials.
If they like animals, we'll find books about animals for them.
3) Our Teachers:
Finally, we have an excellent staff of creative teachers, and we allow them to adapt to your child's needs, rather
than having your child conform to a rigid program that may or may not be optimal
for them. Our teachers all have "highly qualified" North Carolina teaching
licenses for Elementary Education. Our skills-based reading and writing instruction is aligned
with Wake County Public School System's goals and objectives and End-of-Grade Test preparation. However, how we achieve those goals may be radically different
than many other tutoring services.
Our Process
We begin with an initial assessment to help
determine your child’s strengths and needs, followed by a conference with you to explain
the recommended course of action. From this, we develop an individualized
program, tailor-made to foster your child's skills and abilities. On-going
assessments and conferences with you, as well as communication with your child's
elementary school teacher, will keep you involved and informed of your child’s progress. We will work together to ensure your child is successful in reading, writing, and
all learning adventures!
You have the option
of small-group and/or individual tutoring to best meet the needs of your child and
your budget. You may also want to consider our Reading Enrichment Classes as an additional option.
Please call 919-876-5466 for availability
and to schedule an assessment.
Individual Tutoring:

on your child’s individual needs. The teacher may incorporate work that your child
is already doing at school, to directly assist with problem areas that he or she
is encountering. We will help your child overcome obstacles and gain the
self-confidence needed to become a lifelong reader and learner.
